Please read the information below to avoid unexpected charges. Thank you.
Communication through Client Portal
We use our online Client Portal for communication and information sharing between clients and the office. The Client Portal is confidential and allows you to send email messages to your therapist, schedule/cancel appointments, complete/update your paperwork, and check on your billing. You can reach the Client Portal through our website or through the app SimplePractice for Clients. We have a Virtual Assistant that will respond to your texts and voicemails as time permits.
Initial Paperwork
After scheduling their first appointment, new clients will receive a link via email to complete their individual online paperwork. Therapists need to receive the complete paperwork of each client at least 24 hours ahead of their first appointment, otherwise the session will need to be rescheduled.
Session Payments
Payment for therapy sessions are done through our confidential Client Portal. This Portal does not accept checks or cash, just credit cards, debit cards, Flexible Spending or Health Savings Account cards. Any payments related to insurance copay, coinsurance, deductible, or self-pay will be charged electronically to your payment card in the same day of your session. An invoice and payment statement will be posted in your Client Portal account at that time as well.
Therapists’ Fees
Our therapists have different private fees, starting at $180, depending on level of expertise and length of session. To learn more about how each of our therapists work, please check their profiles and fees here.
Use of Insurance
Some of our therapists take insurance, others are Out-of-Network (OON) for most insurance, still others do NOT take insurance. It is IMPORTANT that you check with your insurance about your specific health plan coverage for mental health (if you have any copays, coinsurance, deductibles, out-of-network benefits, and if it covers couples counseling). Please be AWARE that relationship-related therapy, sex therapy are not covered by insurance if there is no mental health associated with it (e.g., anxiety or depression). Couples Therapy Intensives are not covered by insurance at all; a few insurance may reimburse you partially, but you will need to ask your insurance ahead of time. Please only schedule an appointment when you are sure the therapist is enrolled with your insurance and your insurance will cover your type of therapy.
Joseli Alves-Dunkerson and Marshall Abbe take only BCBS, Health Partners, OON, and self-pay ($220 and $200, respectively). Elleni Huerter takes BCBS, UHC, and self-pay ($180). Caitlin Shea takes only self-pay ($75-100).
We don’t take EAPs
Unfortunately, we do not take EAP clients anymore. We have notified all EAP companies, but it can take them time to remove our names from their list. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Appointment Cancellations
We serve the Iowa community and we have waiting lists. We want to make access to therapy available to all in a fair and equitable way. If you schedule an appointment but then decide not to come, please cancel it at least 24h in advance, or a fee between $100-$220 will be charged to your payment card. A one-time fee forgiveness will be applied to an emergency situation. Thank you for understanding!
