- Involuntary tension in vaginal muscles when something penetrates the vagina, such as tampons, fingers, sex toys, or penetrative sex.
- Chronic pain, burning, stinging, itching around the vulva
- Changes in vagina tissues due to hormonal shift in menopause
- Endometriosis: sharp, shocking pain at deeper level due to pelvic adhesions
- Sexual issues due to the impact of medications, past sexual trauma, and chronic health conditions (cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, etc.).
The Contributing Factors Are Many
Mental Health: Psychological factors such as anxiety, depression, and stress can adversely affect sexual desire and performance. A history of trauma or abuse may also play a role in sexual health issues.
Relationship Dynamics: Difficult relationship with a spouse or partner may lead to conflict or distancing, which impacts emotional and physical intimacy.
Social Expectations: these can influence perceive and experience their sexual health. The sense of self-worth and body image can be impacted by the messages shared in society and by the media.

By understanding the complexities of women’s sexual health issues, women (and men) can take proactive steps toward improving their sexual and overall wellbeing. Women are encouraged to consult with professionals who specialize in sexual health.
